Park Commission Minutes
December 8, 2016
Page2
Chair Ronning further stated that Commissioner Adams will assume the Mayor's
position in January and has submitted her Letter of Resignation; he thanked her
for her service on the Park Commission.
Chair Ronning informed the Commissioners that Trudy Jurchen and Maury
Graham had submitted their applications for appointment to the Park
Commission.
Commissioner Adams stated that as a result of the Thriving Communities
Initiative the Park Commission is going to be very active in the next year with
projects coming out of those meetings. City Staff is very busy and the
community will need to lead these projects.
6. Other Business
Chair Ronning stated he attended the Paul Bunyan Scenic Byway meeting.
There were representatives from the Corps of Engineers who were very
supportive of the Byway. The Director of Explore Minnesota also attended and
mentioned Pequot Lakes and the fact that they would like to get involved in a
project around the new park ideas for Trailside Park.
Mike Loven reported the trees in Trailside Park are much taller now than when
they started being decorated. The lights are the original strings and are not LED
and only 3 strings can be strung together. LED lights would allow many strung
together. New lights would need to be purchased and someone would need to
be hired with a boom truck to install them. Commissioner Adams stated she may
know someone who might help with the installation. Mr. Loven stated it could be
a huge number of lights.
COMMISSIONER BRYAN MOVED TO PURCHASE LED LIGHTS AS NEEDED.
COMMISSIONER ADAMS SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION
CARRIED 6-0.
Discussion followed regarding color of new lights, white vs. multi, with no
decision on color.
It was the general consensus to try to leave the top two rows of lights on the
trees, removing the bottom string, to reduce the need for a boom truck to install
the lights each year.
Commissioner Bryan stated that the Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter is
looking for volunteers to provide many different types of service. Their website
is: www.babinskifoundation.org.
