MINUTES
CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES
SAFETY COMMITTEE
January 4,2017
8:30 AM
PRESENT: Nancy Malecha, City Administrator/Clerk; Mike Loven, Public Works
Supervisor; Tom Nelson, Fire Chief; Officer Ryan Franz, Police Union Representative;
and Dawn Bittner, Safety Program Administrator.
ABSENT: Eric Klang, Police Chief; and Mimi Swanson, Council Liaison.
1. Review of Minutes:
A motion was made by Nancy Malecha, seconded by Mike Loven, to approve the
October 5, 2016 Minutes, as read. All members voted"aye". Motion carried.
2. AWAIR Program Annual Review:
Bittner explained the 2017 AWAIR Program had been adopted by the City Council
January 3, 2017 with the one change recommended by the Safety Committee. The
updated manual will be placed in the binder and on the X Drive.
Nancy Malecha had asked Bittner to review the law changes in the AWAIR Program as
noted by the League of Minnesota Cities in their 2016 Law Summaries. Dave Lundberg
with MMUA stated this change is an agency change such as Minnesota OSHA and
Department of Labor and Industry, not an employer change.
3. City Hall Security and Active Shooter Situations:
Bittner noted the safety tip discussion with Office Staff had not taken place. Nancy
Malecha stated she would contact Sgt. Turcotte.
4. Safety Committee Responsibilities:
The Committee reviewed the Responsibilities. It was the consensus of the group to not
establish specific goals and objectives as these are discussed at each meeting.
5. General Guidelines for an OSHA Visit:
The Committee reviewed the Guidelines. In the event an OSHA representative stops in,
Nancy Malecha should be notified immediately, with Department Heads from each
department thereafter. Bittner was directed to provide a copy of the Guidelines to Deb
Marty, Deputy City Clerk.
6. SDS Sheets:
Bittner asked each department to update their SDS sheets in both their offices and the
book in City Hall.
1
