family commitments.Tom Nelson taught fire safety classes to 4 SMART Cooking Classes at Pequot
Lakes High School.
The high way bypass update followed. The Department has been overwhelmed by the operation
that Mathoweitz Construction has performed. They have kept the community well informed of
route changes and policies. There have been very little problems with the project to date.
Under new business, the Chairman explained the Department applied for the Agstar grant for an
electric powered exhaust fan. This past summer the Department responded to a home with a CO
detector going off during a power outage. We determined the carbon monoxide within the
structure came from the homeowners operating a gas powered generator for power the keep
refrigerators and freezers cold.Fire fighters used our gas powered exhaust fan to vent the CO out,
but soon figured out our fan was also putting more CO back into the home.We have one electric
powered exhaust fan that was on an engine in the Breezy Station. This type of fan cost about
$2100.00.
The Department informed Board members the Pequot Lakes Super Valu donated all the food that
was served during our community open house. We appreciate their donation.
A follow up on Chief Nelson's teaching fire safety classes to 4 of the high school's cooking classes
was discussed. This was the first time fire safety was provided to any high school classes. The
students and instructor were pleased with Tom's class and has invited him back for next year.A
new fire extinguisher has already been installed in the kitchen area that was recommended during
the class.
Pelican Township's newly appointed supervisor to our Fire Board, Bob Olson, expressed a thank you
to all of our fire fighters for their dedication of time&commitment to our communities.
The owners of Pelican Square located in Breezy Point plan to double the size of their business. They
will also be constructing a new car wash.
Our next meeting is planned for January 25th,2017 at the fire station. This will be the 2016 year-
end report meeting for the Fire Department and the Fire Board's election of Officers for 2017.
Meeting adjourned.
PRESENT AT MEETING: Gary Hart,John Benson,Mayor Dave Sjoblad, Leonard Sodd, Mayor Thomas
Lillehei,Administrator Joe Rudberg,Fire Chief Tom Nelson,Bob Peterson, Bob Olson,Bill Rickard,&
Craig Bartels
