a e <br /> PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br /> MEETING MINUTES OCTOBER 26,2016 <br /> The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson.A new member, Bob <br /> Olson,is replacing Tracy Donovan,who will not be running for his town board position.Welcome to <br /> our group. <br /> The minutes of the last meeting were not read due to a motion by Bartels,second by Benson, <br /> motion passed. <br /> The third quarter fire call report totaled 23 calls.By types,there were 13 good intent,4 structure <br /> fires,3 assist police,2 cancelled in route,and 1 motor vehicle accident.By location,there were 8 to <br /> Pequot Lakes,7 to City of Breezy Point,2 to Loon Lake Township,2 to Nisswa,2 to Pelican <br /> Township,and 1 each to Jenkins Township and Moose Lake Township. Last year we had 19 calls <br /> during this time period.John Benson asked about the structure fire in his township. It was some <br /> type of electrical fire we were not able to determine the cause.The call was not billed as we were <br /> not sure who the owner was.The owner's name is Rich Wetherall.He lives in the Brainerd area. <br /> The training report totaled 27 hours.By types,there were 4 hours fire hose testing,3 hours pump <br /> engine operation along with water tender shuttle,3 hours of a walk thru inspection of several <br /> Breezy Point properties,3 hours ropes and repelling,3 hours fire prevention hosting our <br /> community open house,3 hours fire fighters scene roll up with quick suppression,2 hours rope <br /> training with knots,2 hours fire prevention classes at Eagle View School,and 1 hour each hydrant <br /> operation,fire hall maintenance,SCBA relocation go vehicles, and fire prevention preparation <br /> stuffing bags for students. <br /> The financial report was discussed. Fire contract services was 227%over budget due to installation <br /> costs for our new washer&dryer we were awarded via the AFG grant in 2015.Mutual aid fire calls <br /> are not billed for services.There is a stipulation in our mutual aid contracts that a department may <br /> charge if they provide over 10 hours of service,but it is rarely done.Our training budget is always <br /> over budget,but we are reimbursed by the State for most of that cost.The operation supplies <br /> consisted of a lot of supplies needed to install the washer&dryer.Sodd motioned to approve the <br /> report,second by Mayor Sjoblad,motion passed. <br /> The third quarter fire personnel and operations report followed.The Department received delivery <br /> of our new strut rescue tool kit at a cost of$4460.00 purchased using donated funds. Fire fighters <br /> inspected several Breezy Point Resort properties including the Convention Center, Marina II, Breezy <br /> Center, Breezy Laundry, Breezy Inne&Suites,Hockey Arena,&the dorm building next to the <br /> hockey arena.Special attention was given to pre-planning,fire alarm panels,general building design <br /> &layout,&gas or electric meters.Tom Nelson,Brian Evenson,&Travis Jacobus attended a 911 <br /> memorial ceremony at Breezy Point Resort on September 11th.Fire fighters promoted fire safety to <br /> 15 different classes of elementary students.The Fire Department hosted our annual open house <br /> October 12th with the safe house, bouncey house, kitchen grease fire demonstration,fire truck <br /> rides,&refreshments.The Department applied for an AGSTAR grant to purchase an electric fan,but <br /> was denied. Fire Department staff will be assisting staff at Pequot Super Valu during their <br /> Halloween open house on October 27th. Dave Ackerman resigned from the Department due to <br />
