Open Forum
Tim Keene, resident of Jenkins Township stated that he is aware that
letters have been sent to the Council in support of the annexation. He indicated they received 223 signatures —1 vote for
annexation to the City of Jenkins, 10 votes for annexation to the City of
Pequot Lakes and the balance to remain as a township. Mr. Keene asked
for an indication as to which way the Council will be voting. Mayor
Malecha indicated that the Council was not ready to make a decision at
this time.
Ray Steffens, resident of Jenkins Township — Silver Sands Road,
addressed the Council about the reasons why it would be best for the City
of Pequot Lakes to annex the Township. She explained that
there is a need for more business /industrial park land as all of the City -
owned land has been sold. In order to allow development to occur on the
present spray irrigation land, a facility plan would have to be done to
consider re- locating the spray irrigation facilities or to consider another
method of disposing the City's wastewater. She indicated that the EDC
would like to begin the planning process for industrial /business park
expansion and is requesting support from the City Council.
COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO PROCEED WITH THE
FACILITY PLAN. COUNCIL MEMBER ORASKOVICH SECONDED THE
MOTION.
Council Member Ryan stated that the sewer fund is low in revenues and
that the money to do the facility study is not available.
