Pequot Lakes - Hwy 371 North
October 7, 2005
16. As part of the Turn-back Agreement, MnDOT will re-do the width of old TH 371 south of
Olson Road to a 32-foot overall width(two 12-foot travel lanes and two 4-foot shoulders)
as well as providing appropriate pavement upgrades.
17. On the west side, immediately south of CR 168 (Mayo Lake Road), there will be a service
(backage) road coming off of CR 168 servicing this corner.
MnDOT says the City is responsible for acquiring most of the R/W for this service road.
MnDOT will pay for the remainder of the R/W and a standard service road (32-foot, ditch-
lined).
The City is responsible for any future possible connection of Hurtig Road into this service
road instead of its present intersection with CR 168 (see No. 18 below).
CR 107 North/CR 168 - Derksen Road/Derksen Road extended west {1 mile]
18. On the west side of the highway, the possibility of moving the proposed service road on the
north side to the west to form a four-legged intersection with Hurtig Road on the south was
dropped due to several issues: there were property remnant issues, MnDOT did not see a
direct benefit to TH 371 of this alignment so it would be a 100% City cost, and the top of
the hill on CR 168 was not necessarily the best place for this new intersection.
This and No. 17 above need input from and coordination with the County as it impacts
County Road 168.
19. For the service road on the west side of the highway, the City has been talking to the
property owners about possibly going with a backage road instead of MnDOT's proposed
frontage road(which MnDOT went with because they can get it to work at less cost).
For a backage road, the City would be responsible for paying for both R/W and business
"re-orientation" costs.
Council comment:It was noted that a possible backage road in this area has been apart of
the Sibley Township plan for many years and MnDOT's proposal for a frontage road does
not consider those planning efforts.
It was also noted that from CR 168 to the north for a mile and a half to Morehouse Drive
there is no access off/onto the highway. Discussion was held regarding the possibility of a
full access intersection, or at least some right in-right outs within this mile and a half to
make the commercial area on the west side of the highway more accessible.
CAMy Documents\City Clerk\HIGHWAY 37 1\Meetings\102505 List of Issues for City MnDOT mtg-memo.doc
