Pequot Lakes - Hwy 371 North
March 23, 2005
will be made as MnDOT determines the actual construction phasing(not yet to this point in the
process).
10. MnDOT will put the"guts"of pre-emption equipment in the stoplights as a part of this project.
However, it is the responsibility of the local agencies to obtain and install the proper
corresponding equipment in their vehicles.
11. The City will be working with the County,as there will be several interactions of between City
streets-service roads and County Roads.
12. It varies depending on the direction coming into town, but it appears that roughly half of the
trips are thru trips (less than 10 minutes) while roughly the other half are either extended
through trips (10 minutes to 1 hour) or local traffic (greater than 1 hour).
Thus, while local people that use the highway have one perspective, there is a whole other
group out there that does not live in this area that has another perspective of what the highway
should be like.
Therefore, this highway needs to be designed to allow the thru trips to safely get"in and out"
without causing undue congestion or safety problems for the local trips.
CR 107 South/CSAH 29 - CR 107 North/CR 168 (Mayo Lake Road) { 2 miles }
13. MnDOT believes they can fit the grassed-median, divided four-lane highway and a slightly
relocated Paul Bunyan Trail in the area between West Twin Lake and East Twin Lake without
getting too "tight" or"ruining"the aesthetics.
Thus,MnDOT does not see the need for,nor do they see the DNR even allowing, an"off TH
371 corridor" Paul Bunyan Trail.
14. There is an existing water access to West Twin Lake on the west side of TH 371 north of
CSAH 29.
The DNR is talking to the Lake Association about replacing this access. Due to the proposed
highway alignment being moved to the east, one possibility is to use the old TH 371 roadbed
area.
The DNR first needs to determine whether or not there will be an access and if so,the size and
layout of it (a small 2-3 car parking area is one option that has apparently been discussed).
MnDOT is willing to work with the DNR if a decision is made to provide an access to West
Twin Lake.
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKB\032305 Council Workshop update-memo.doc
