Project:
Staining/Renewal of the Outside of the Library Buildig
The Pequot Lakes Community Library was organized and opened by
volunteers in July, 2004. The original site was the Pequot Lakes City Hall,
but this space was outgrown rather quickly. In June, 2009, the Library
Board voted to purchase the retail space known as "Little Pine Plaza," giving
the library more than double its original space. The Board raised the entire
funds for purchase which included a$SO,OOO low interest loan, of which
three years of payments have been covered.

The building was built in the early 1990's and has not had outside care since
then. The project would have volunteers, under the supervision of one of
our patrons who is a professional painter and who would donate his time,
prepare the building and sta.in it. These volunteers would include members
of the Friends of the Library group, the Pequot Lakes Business Group and
Sentence to Serve. Others would be recruited, if necessary. The measurable
outcome would be that the staining of the building would be completed
within one month of receiving the stain. Pictures would be taken as the
project progresses and at completion.
The library has no paid employees. It is totally operated by volunteers.
During the summer months, average patron usage is approximately 125 per
day; in winter, it averages 85 — 60 per day, depending upon the month. The
library raises almost all of its operating funds, although the City now covers
heat and electricity. The Library Boaxd raises all other funds to support the
Library.
