The FEMA grant status is we have not been officially notified that we will not be
awarded a grant for 2010. Our application for 2011 will be processed soon.
The department has been working on developing fire pre-plans for approximately 20
commercial or public buildings within our fire district. A pre-plan is a sketch of a
building which shows locations of gas lines, electrical service, fire alarm panels,
hazardous material storage, doors and passageways, elevators, handicapped criteria, and
generally anything else the department should be awaze of. Members assisted the Breezy
Point Area during the ice festival and polar plunge activities. The department paid for
CPR training for 8 spouses and 6 children due to the fact that statistics tell us fire fighters
are prone to heart attacks, or several other health issues after the fire incident when they
are back home. We donated $100.00 to a Backus fire fighter who experienced a house
fire. The Officers have been working to improve attendance at fire incidents, meetings,
and training sessions. The new 800 megahertz radio project is on track. Two fire fighters
have been trained in the operation of equipment and will be responsible to train the rest of
the crew. The project will be funded 80% by Crow Wing County and 20% local
departments.
