...
ACTIVE COMMUNITIES MINI-GRANT APPLICATION FORM
Applicant Information:
Organization: City of Pequot Lakes Minnesota
Contact Person: Nancy Adams, Mayor
Mailing Address: 4638 County Road 11, Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Telephone: 218-568-5222
Email: ma,(apeauotlakes-mn.
Fax: 218-568-5860
Proposed Action Plan:
Goals & objectives: Pequot Lakes has a wonderful park system. In conjunction with the
numerous initiatives ongoing in the area, we want to make these
parks more bicycle-friendly.
`.• Why needed: As the parks have been studied, bike racks have been noticeably missing or
in short supply. Racks would make biking into town and/or visiting the
parks a much more attractive activity.
Population impacted: Pequot Lakes is a community of approximately 2,000 residents.
For 2010, there were 31,977 registered visitors at the Chamber's
Trailside Center. We certainly acknowledge that not all of these
people will avail themselves of the bike racks, but we do know that
a lot of these people used the Paul Bunyan Trail and would have
like to have a safe spot for their bikes.
Sustained policy, system &/or environmental change resulting from the project:
Having bicycle racks available throughout the parks encourages bike riding
into and within the community. People understand that they have a secure
place to lock their bikes and walk around the community or play at the parks.
In the neighborhood parks, it encourages parents to ride their with their
children (rather than come by car).
How to know the project is successful: The bike racks will be installed permanently in
the parks and will be used by the many people
who need to lock their bicycles.
