City of
Pe UOt
q
Lakes — -
AGENDA ITEM #1.1 D
REPORT TO
CITY COUNCIL
Date: April 5, 2011
Subject: Exempt Status — Police Chief
Report: At the March Council meeting, Council Member
Ryan requested staff to research the question of whether a
Police Chief for the City of Pequot Lakes would qualify for
exempt status according to the Fair Labor Standards Act.
After reviewing the attached information from the League
of Minnesota Cities, and after discussing this with the
Mayor and with Council Member Ryan, I feel that this
position does qualify as "Exempt Status."
If the Council decides to make this an exempt position, it
should be done by a motion of the Council. The Council
may then want to consider having the Job Evaluation
Committee re-evaluate the pay range and points for the
position.
Council Action Requested: Council decision on the status
of Exempt versus Non-Exempt for the Police Chief
`' position.
