PARK DEDICATION
The Park Board reviewed the proposed Park and Open Space Land
Acquisition Policy for determining whether to acquire park land or a fee in
lieu of land dedication.
COMMISSIONER TWEED MOVED TO ADOPT THE PARK AND OPEN
SPACE LAND ACQUISITION POLICY. COMMISSIONER JURCHEN
SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0.
Park Dedication for Final Plat of Trailside Estates
The Park Board reviewed the Trailside Estates Plat for land dedication.
The developer Corky Smith, is proposing to dedicate Outlot B which is .42
acres in size, as a park. Mr. Smith is proposing to install improvements at
the park including certified playground equipment consisting of swings, a
slide, and monkey bars, similar to the type made of redwood. Other
improvements he is proposing include a gazebo, street lights, trees, and
pathways. The Park Board discussed the proposal. It was noted that Mr.
Smith is proposing that the City acquire the park when it is complete.
The Park Board discussed the pros and cons of the City acquiring the
park. The Park Board noted that the City would be responsible for
maintenance and insurance of the park. The Park Board felt that although
this park would be a city park, it will be considered more of a
neighborhood park. The question of how many and what style of
neighborhood parks does the city want or need was discussed and that
this should be a topic that is included in the planning of future park land for
the City.
The Park Board stated that it would be helpful if they had more time to
review the park dedication request and also felt it would be beneficial if the
board members could actually visit the land to look at the terrain and
determine what type of park and amenities would be best suited for the
area. The Board also noted that it would like a drawing showing the
proposed park improvements.
CHAIR ANDERSON MOVED TO ACCEPT THE PARK AS A CITY PARK
FOR TRAILSIDE ESTATES WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATIONS:
1. THAT A PRELIMINARY DRAWING OF THE PARK SHOWING
PARK AMENITIES BE PRESENTED AND APPROVED BY THE
PARK BOARD.
