PEQUOT LAKES PARK COMMISSION THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 2011 CITY HALL Members Present: Chair Tweed, DenHartog and, Clement Also Present: Council Member Malecha; Sandy Peine, City Clerk; Mike Loven, Public Works Supervisor, Mayor Adams, and Tommy Woog; EDC Representative (Trudy Jurchen's term and Everett Johnson's term on the Park Commission expired on December 31St. The City received no new applicants; therefore, there were only three members present on January 13th) 1. Call Meeting to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Tweed 2. Approve Park Commission Minutes MOTION WAS MADE BY COMMISSIONER CLEMENT TO APPROVE THE DECEMBER 9, 2010, PARK COMMISSION MINUTES. COMMISSIONER DENHARTOG SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-0. 3. Water Splash Park Mayor Adams updated the Commission on the Council's discussion regarding the splash park. She noted that the Council made a motion to give the Park Commission permission to research a splash park. Tommy Woog was present to educate the Park Commission on water/splash parks. He stated that he has a lot of insight regarding this type of activity due to the business he is in. Tommy Woog stated that the middle of town would be the best place for a splash park. He suggested that the Commission research the logistics for a splash park such as: • Size of the Splash Park • Cost to maintain the pond • Who is responsible for the maintenance • How will the maintenance be funded • How much property is needed, especially if future expansion is considered • Is it necessary to hire employees to run the park It was suggested that a map of the park would be very helpful. It was also suggested that research begin by looking for cities that have this type of amenity (Hastings and St. Cloud). It was suggested that a form be drafted
