Park Commission Minutes <br /> December 9, 2010 <br /> Page 2 — <br /> Mike Loven gave an update on the Chamber of Commerce Bicycle <br /> Friendly Community meeting. He noted that Cathy Malecha and Nancy <br /> Adams also attended this meeting. The discussion at the meeting <br /> centered on how to make our community more bicycle friendly. <br /> Suggestions included bicycle safety, signage, and bike racks. Discussion <br /> was held by the Park Commission regarding the possibility of a bike trail <br /> leading to Sibley Lake Park. <br /> It was suggested that the Park Commission budget for bicycle friendly <br /> signs and bike racks in 2012. <br /> 5. Projects for 2011 <br /> The Commission suggested the following ideas for 2011 park projects: <br /> • Finish the band shelter <br /> • Put the signs on the Fishing Pier at Sibley Lake <br /> • Bike path to Sibley Lake <br /> • Bands in the Park - Cathy Malecha is working on the schedule _ <br /> • Park brochures <br /> • Mayor Adams suggested conducting a survey asking for input from <br /> the community on what the citizens would like to see in Pequot <br /> Lakes in the line of parks and recreation <br /> • Mayor Adams suggested that the Park Commission look at a long <br /> range plan <br /> The Mayor informed the Commissioners that the Business Group is <br /> considering holding a farmers market in the summer and fall. She <br /> noted that the Business Group is also looking at ways to develop the <br /> west side of Pequot Lakes. <br /> 6. Other Business <br /> David Kennedy stated that he is considering the concept of renting bikes <br /> at the ice cream shop. He stated that when the Commission begins <br /> working on the splash park, he would like to provide input as to where it <br /> would be located. Mr. Kennedy stated that he is unhappy with the planting <br /> of 20 chokecherry trees which block the view to his business. He further <br /> noted that the band stand also screens his business and he would rather <br /> that the band shelter did not have a back wall. Mr. Kennedy suggested <br /> that the Park Commission present the splash park idea to surrounding <br /> businesses. <br /> 7. Adjournment <br />
