PEQUOT LAKES PARK COMMISSION THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2012 CITY HALL Members Present: Commissioners Jeff Bruch, Dena Doughty, and Chair Pete Clement, and Karen Ettesvold Members Absent: Commissioner Faye Tweed Also Present: Sandy Peine, City Clerk; Mike Loven, Public Works Supervisor; Council Member Cathy Malecha; and Mayor Adams 1. Call Meeting to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Chair Clement. 2. 1/12/11 Park Commission Minutes COMMISSIONER BRUCH MOVED TO APPROVE THE 1/12/11 PARK COMMISSION MINUTES. COMMISSIONER ETTESVOLD SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 4-0. 3. 2012 Budget The Clerk stated that she would be giving the Park Commission a budget update at each meeting. 4. Review Ordinance — Park Commission Responsibilities The Clerk noted that the Park Commissioners should read the ordinance to get a better understanding of their role on the Commission. She reminded the members that they are a recommending body and that all final decisions are made by the Council. She stressed the importance of the Park Commission as it does a majority of the work and study for programs, parks, etc. 5. Mission Statement The Park Commission reviewed sample mission statements. The Park Commission drafted the following mission statement: Park Commission Mission Statement— Pequot Lakes To enrich the quality of community life and promote activities for families and people of all ages and abilities, while protecting open space and natural resources for current and future generations; to be financially responsible; and be a liaison between the community and city government.
