Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Dear Mr. Marohn,
Since the purpose of your phone call yesterday was to determine if I am angry
with you, or harbor some personal animosity toward you, I felt I could better illustrate
my point of view In written form. I might be slower than your average bear, so I prefer
to put my thoughts on paper to prevent unspoken thoughts and avoid misstatements
that can occur during a spirited discussion. If there were terse words toward you from a
conversation between a member of your planning commission and I that have offended
you, then an apology is certainly due to you. With that, I offer you my apology as
vulgarity has no place in a debate between mature adults. Regardless of my thoughts
about how you do your job, I have no animosity towards you as a person.
First of all, I find your recent actions astounding. You claim that working together
with the City Council you can make Pequot Lakes a better place, but in the same letter,
you are asking them to change their vote to conform with your opinions regarding the
bypass. The Council voted 5-2 in favor of a thru-town route. Some members of the
Council, including the Mayor voted in favor of the bypass based upon their personal
opinion and one member voted against her own personal opinion because she felt it
more important to represent the people who by vast majority expressed their wishes to
her to keep the current alignment through town. I knew nothing about her other than
she was just a real nice lady who I would see around town. Now, I am very impressed
with her conviction to do her job as an elected official and represent the people.
After the vote, many people finally had something they could agree upon. This
is over! Now we can work together to make sure MNDoT does the beat job
possible for our town.
To illustrate my thoughts of your job performance, let's go back to last summer
when you denied my vendors' permit during Bean Hole Days and the Fourth of July
celebration. Perhaps you may recall the issue. I still haven't received a response to my
letter written to you on 8/19/03 addressing the issue. Always one to provide the
