any private single family residence. Section 80-060 Design, Construction and Maintenance. All signs shall be properly maintained. Exposed surfaces shall be clean and painted if required. Defective parts shall be replaced. The Administrator shall have the right under Section 80-140 to order the repair or removal of any sign which is defective, damaged, or substantially deteriorated. A. Signs shall be constructed of the following materials: brick, stone, metal, or wood and shall be finished to complement the natural surroundings. B. In districts where allowed, signs may be illuminated by the following methods: internally or externally lighted and shielded to prevent glare to adjoining roadway and residences. C. Projecting signs, awnings and canopies that overhang a sidewalk or other pedestrian way shall provide a minimum clearance above the said pedestrian way of eight (8) feet. D. Except for banners, flags, temporary signs, and window signs conforming in all respects with the requirements of these Regulations, all signs shall be permanently attached to the ground, a building, or other structure by direct attachment to a rigid wall, frame or structure. Section 80-070 Prohibited Signs. The following signs are prohibited in all districts: 1. Non-conforming signs; 2. Vacant or abandoned building signs - owner has 60 days to remove after notification by Zoning Administrator; 3. Signs imitating or resembling official traffic or government signs or signals in shape, size or color; 4. Snipe signs or signs attached to trees, telephone or utility poles, public benches, streetlights, or placed on any public property or public right-of-way; 5. Signs placed on vehicles or trailers which are parked or located for the primary purpose of displaying said signs (this does not apply to signs or lettering on buses, taxis, or vehicles operating during the normal course of business); 6. Signs that obscure official traffic control devices; 7. Search lights except with approval from the Town Board; 8. Blinking, flashing, intermittently lighted or revolving lights or unshielded lights, except time, temperature and public information by Conditional Use Permit only; 9. Signs that emit sound; 10. Signs anchored by guy wires, chains, cables or similar devices that project down to the ground or in any way, create an unsafe condition for pedestrians or motorists; 11. Unmaintained signs shall be removed or repaired within 60 days after notification by the Zoning Administrator; 12. Roof signs; 13. Portable signs not attached permanently to the ground; 14. Signs in excess of 100 total sq. ft.; and, 15. Off-site signs (with the exception of approved directional signs). Sibley Township Zoning Ordinance Article III 75
