• <br /> Under-canopy sign - a sign suspended beneath a canopy, ceiling, roof, or marquee. <br /> l <br /> Wall sign - a sign attached essentially parallel to and extending not more than twenty-four (24) <br /> inches from the wall of a building with no copy on the sides or edges. This definition includes <br /> painted, individual letter, and cabinet signs, and signs on a mansard. <br /> Window sign - lettering placed directly on a window surface. <br /> Section 80-040 Permits Required. <br /> Unless otherwise provided by this Ordinance, all signs shall require permits and payment of fees <br /> as described in the Addendum Fee Schedule of the Sibley Township Code. No permit is <br /> required for the maintenance of a sign or for a change of copy on painted, printed, or changeable <br /> copy signs. If the work authorized by the sign permit is not completed within 6 months from <br /> date of issuance, the permit shall be considered null and void. Failure to obtain a sign permit <br /> prior to erection of a sign will result in a double permit fee. <br /> Section 80-050 General Provisions. <br /> It shall hereafter be unlawful for any person to erect, place, or maintain a sign in Sibley <br /> Township except in accordance with the provisions of this Ordinance. <br /> A. If signs do not meet the front yard requirements, a method of averaging may be used to <br /> determine the location of a new sign. No sign shall be placed closer than fifteen (15) feet from <br /> side lot lines in all districts. <br /> �.. B. Signs, other than governmental signs, are prohibited within public rights-of-way and <br /> easements and on public property, without written permission of the Town Board. In areas <br /> designated by an approved comprehensive plan as having future frontage roads, setbacks shall <br /> be a minimum of 50 feet from existing road right-of-way. <br /> C. In shoreland areas, uses that depend on patrons arriving by watercraft may use signs and <br /> lighting to convey needed information to the public, subject to the following standards: <br /> 1. No signs may be placed in the shore impact zone in shoreland overlay districts. <br /> 2. No advertising signs or supporting facilities for signs may be placed in or upon <br /> public waters. Signs conveying information or safety messages may be placed in <br /> or upon public waters by a public authority or under a permit issued by the <br /> County Sheriff. <br /> 3. Outside lighting may be located within the shore impact zone or over public <br /> waters if it is used to illuminate potential safety hazards and is shielded or <br /> otherwise directed to prevent direct illumination out across public waters. This <br /> does not preclude use of navigational lights. <br /> 4. All signs shall meet structure setbacks from the Ordinary High Water Mark of <br /> public waters on all lake classifications (i.e. General Development - 75 feet, <br /> Recreational Development - 100 feet, Natural Environment - 200 feet) (See also <br /> Section 25-120) <br /> D. No sign shall be placed within a delineated Type 3, 4 and 5 wetland; <br /> �-- E. A Changing Message or Illuminated Sign shall not be located closer than 100 feet from <br /> Sibley Township Zoning Ordinance Article III 74 <br />
