� POLICE REORGANIZATION <br />February l, 2011 <br />JANUARY 18, 2011 COUNCIL MEETING: <br />• Special Council Work Session — Ideas generated by public regarding <br />police services, level of service, level of organization and perceived <br />problems. <br />• What Was Gleaned From Citizen Input? <br />1. Preference for a stand alone department. <br />2. Preference for more community policing. <br />3. Preference for retaining staff level at current size. <br />4. Citizens made almost universally positive remarks regarding <br />police coverage over the last six months. Similarly, both <br />County and other local police units commented positively <br />regarding interaction with Pequot police in the last six months. <br />� <br />FEBRUARY 1, 2011 COUNCIL MEETING: <br />• What is the next step in the process? Perhaps, choose the top ideas <br />and begin the reorganization process. <br />• What do we need from the Council? <br />l. Most likely, how the Council wants to structure the department. <br />2. Concurrence that the City wants to go in the direction of its <br />own department of 5 officers which includes a chief. <br />3. Does the Council concur that there is a need for a chief and a <br />sergeant? <br />4. Job descriptions need to be developed for Council to review. <br />Who does this? Suggest a committee consisting of liaison, <br />second Council Member, Acting Police Chief and the City <br />Clerk. Obtain descriptions from surrounding areas for both <br />positions. <br />�.. <br />
