PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD <br />� MINUTES OF THE JANUARY 26, 2011 MEETING <br />The quarterly meeting of th� PLAFB was called to order by Chairperson Peterson. <br />Members in attendance were Hart, Benson, Ryan, Dubay, Littman, Weaver, Rudberg, <br />Johnson, Nelson, I'eterson, McNerney, Bartels,and Donovan. The minutes of the last <br />meetuig were not read by a motian by I�ubay, second by MclVemey, rrYOtian passed. <br />The faurth quarter fire report totaled 13 calls. By types, there were 10 good intent, 2 <br />muival aid structizre, and 1 structare fire. By location, there were 6 to Pequot Lalces, 2 to <br />Maple Township, and 1 each to Jenkins Tovmship, City of Jenkins, Poplar Township, <br />Ideal Towrzship, and Nisswa. Last year there were 14 calls during this period. The <br />department had 63 calls last year and 56 this past year. <br />The fourth quarter training report totaled 19 hours. By types, there were 6 hours of live <br />house burn, 3 hours fi7re preventian, 3 hours hazardous materials, 2 hours hose testing, 2 <br />hours search and rescue with SCBA, and 1 hour each of fire alarm systems, gas monitors, <br />and thermal imaging camera. <br />One fire bill was sent that totaled $500.00 <br />The fourth quarter and annual financial report were discussed. The repairs and <br />maintenance for 2010 was more than the bulget planned for. We cannot predict what <br />needs to be f�ed during the year. Bunkers were over budget due to the department <br />purchasing leather boots, which s�ould last longer and are much more comfortable than <br />rubber. The cash balance af $110,665.82 at the end of the year will have to fmance the <br />operations until next June, when new contract funds are available. Training expenses <br />during 2010 v�ere offset by a$4000.00 state grant. Rudberg inotioned to approve the <br />financial report, second by Dubay, motion passed. <br />A discussion of licensing fire fighters confirmed that the system was initiated to <br />zecognize full time fire fighters. Tke criteria to license personnel has not been <br />established, We know the fee will be $75.00 each for a three year period. We have no <br />plans to license our personnel at this time. We recognize training at the fire fighter I and <br />II levels. <br />We have not received a FEMA gra.nt for 2010 yet. The 2011 applicatians are due in <br />April. There is grants for 2010 not awarded. <br />We received a$100.00 donation from Craig & Claire Nagel. <br />We recognized our new department Officers for 2011. <br />The air mask project was completed during 2010 by refizrbishing our old masks and <br />purchasing used high pressure air battles. The department saved about $80,000 verses <br />purchasing new units. The members a11 completed physical fitness and air mask fitting <br />�-- tests at a cost of about $100.00 each per fighter. Tests included a 12 lead EKG heart <br />check and a Iung capacity breativng test. Scott VJarner has resigned from the department <br />and will be moving out of the area.
