MINUTES
PEQUOT LAKES REGULAR PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
OCTOBER 17,2002
PRESENT: Bill Habein, Marty Nelson, Barb Sjoblad, Cheri Seils, Karl Moon, Tom
Woog, Craig Nagel, Mark Hallan, and John Derksen.
ZONING ADMINISTRATOR: Charles Marohn.
The meeting was called to order by Craig Nagel, Commission Chairperson, at 6:30 p.m.
APPLICANT:
James Lundeen, represented by Linton Lundeen, his son.
6044— 12th Avenue South
Minneapolis, MN 55417
Applicant requests a variance to construct within the shoreline setback.
Mr. Marohn explained his Staff Report and pointed out a letter that had just been received
from the Cullen Lakes Association.
Mr. Lundeen stated that their request was for a small addition in order to have a
bathroom. His Mother's health was deteriorating and use of the outhouse was becoming
difficult. He also indicated that neighbors had added onto their structures within the
shore impact zone. He would like to exercise the Crow Wing County one-time addition
option that was included in the Staff Report. He also was very willing to meet any
conditions set forth.
A motion was made by Karl Moon, seconded by Barb Sjoblad, to deny the variance
based on the six findings of fact included in the Staff Report.
Discussion followed regarding the findings of fact:
1. Incorrect. They have not owned the property for 50 years.
2. No bathroom is a hardship. Use of the outhouse is not favorable.
3. Internal remodel—Existing cabin is only 28' X 22' and a bathroom would have to
be put in an existing bedroom.
4 & 5. Moving the structure back or demolishing it and building new would mean
destroying very large Norway Pines.
6. They would request the one time Crow Wing County provision.
Bill Habein and Marty Nelson opposed the denial. All other members voted"aye".
Motion carried.
