. j <br /> MINUTES <br /> LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> MARCH 13, 2003 <br /> The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. by Charles Marohn, Planning and <br /> Zoning Administrator. <br /> PRESENT: Commission Members: Craig Nagel, Ryan Buell and Cheryl <br /> Karnowski. General Public: Tom Woog, Mark Jurchen, Karl Moon, Edward <br /> Larson, John Derksen, David Kennedy, Brenda Myers, Juliet Lilgaroth, Tom <br /> Ryan and Cathy Malecha. <br /> Prior to Mr. Marohn beginning his presentation, Mr. Kennedy questioned whether <br /> the meeting could be held without a quorum of Members. Mayor Malecha <br /> explained that this was not an official body. It is a committee to collect <br /> information. It would not make policy, just recommendations, with input from the <br /> general public. <br /> Mr. Marohn explained his Comprehensive Plant Outline, a copy of which is <br /> attached. <br /> I. Community History: Mr. Marohn explained that the Sibley Township <br /> Comprehensive Plan had included historical information from the entire <br /> area, including Pequot Lakes. The new Plan would also include a pre- <br /> settlement vegetation map and the transportation maps and other <br /> information from George Orning's Highway 371 presentation for <br /> MnDOT March 6, 2003. <br /> II. Current Development Trends: The demographic information in the <br /> Sibley Comp Plan would need to be updated with the 2000 census. <br /> Two maps would also be included: State Growth Map (Pequot Lakes <br /> is a neighborhood center) and the Scenic Amenity Map (hills, trees & <br /> water). <br /> III. 2003 Plan Update Method. <br /> IV. Plan Components: <br /> a. Housing Plan: Information had been collected from Pequot Lakes <br /> HRA and the Central MN Housing Study, as well as the 2000 <br /> census. Redevelopment areas need to be defined. <br /> b. Economic Development Plan: Information had been collected from <br /> BLADC, PLADO, the DNR and the Chamber. A downtown concept <br /> plan needs to be created. A sidewalk survey will be taken in June. <br /> What is the critical success of each component: light industrial, <br />
