ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION <br /> JANUARY 21,2014 <br /> MEETING MINUTES <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Chair Jurchen, Commissioners Rieck, Merritt, and Stroot <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Roggenkamp <br /> ALSO PRESENT: Sheila Haverkamp, BLAEDC; Mayor Nancy Adams; Dawn <br /> Bittner, Zoning Administrator; Sandy Peine, <br /> City Clerk; and Chris Lindholm, School Superintendent <br /> 1. Call Meeting to Order <br /> The meeting was called to order by Chair Jurchen at 8:00 a.m. <br /> 2. Approval EDC Minutes <br /> COMMISSIONER RIECK MOVED TO APPROVE THE 12/17/2013 EDC <br /> MINUTES. COMMISSIONER STROOT SECONDED THE MOTION. <br /> MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> COMMISSIONER RIECK MOVED TO NOMINATE MARK JURCHEN <br /> AS EDC CHAIR FOR 2014. COMMISSIONER MERRITT SECONDED <br /> THE NOMINATION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> 5. Update on ISD 186 Strategic Planning Process <br /> School Superintendent Chris Lindholm gave an update on the Strategic Planning <br /> Process. The School Board has laid out the timeline to complete this process <br /> sometime in May and is currently in the process of gathering information from the <br /> community. There is an electronic survey on line containing four questions that <br /> the School Board is requesting the community to complete. Mr. Lindholm <br /> requested the EDC to complete the survey. <br /> 3. High Speed Internet Service <br /> Chair Jurchen and Commissioner Stroot reported on a meeting they attended with <br /> Bob Perkins of TDS. Bill Stroot reported the following: TDS had received a grant <br /> for $5,000,000 for the construction of broadband technology. The construction <br /> has been accomplished in 2013 and 90% of the customers now have access to <br /> some form of broadband. TDS is using the technology of copper to get the <br /> broadband to the home. The customer can get 5 mg. of band width to the home <br /> and up to 25 mg. depending on how far the home is from the mode. The bottom <br /> line is that broadband is available to anyone who wants it in Pequot Lakes. <br /> Discussion was held regarding whether the cost was affordable to hook up. It was <br /> determined that it was affordable. It was suggested that TDS should consider <br />
