He stated that he is in favor of equalizing the taxes in a three- <br />year time period. <br />Council Member Akerson questioned whether there could be a possibility <br />of a reverse annexation with the township. He stated that he would like to <br />study the possibility of a reverse annexation prior to making a decision. <br />Council Member Pederson referred to the properties in Breezy Point that <br />annexed to an adjoining township and stated this could be possibly <br />happen with this situation. Council Member Pederson then read a <br />statement stating findings of fact on the annexation which is attached and <br />made part of the August 6, 2013 Councit minutes. He questioned the <br />legality of breaking the contract with Sibley Township. Council Member <br />Pederson stated that to equalize taxes would be a big benefit to the City <br />but he would like it to be done the same as was done in the annexation <br />agreement with the commercial properties which was a six-year transition. <br />Mayor Adams read a statement which is attached and made part of the <br />August 6, 2013 Council minutes. Mayor Adams stated that the main goal <br />is to equalize taxes in a manner that will be fair to everyone. <br />� COUNCIL MEMBER PEDERSON MOVED TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 13- <br />05 AMENDING THE AMENDED JOINT RESOLUTION FOR ORDERLY <br />ANNEXATION BETWEEN THE TOWNSHIP OF SIBLEY AND THE CITY <br />OF PEQUOT LAKES, MN RELATING TO THE REPEAL OF THE <br />RURAL AND URBAN SERVICE DISTRICTS IN A SIX-YEAR TIME <br />PERIOD. COUNCIL MEMBER AKERSON SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />Council Member Pederson stated that he feels this follows with the original <br />intent of the annexation agreement. Council Member Sjoblad stated that <br />he feels the taxes should be equalized in a shorter time period and will <br />stand with his recommendation of a three-year transition. Council Member <br />Gardner concurred with Council Member Sjoblad. <br />Mayor Adams stated she is in favor of making sure the equalization is <br />accomplished. Council Member Gardner stated that because the <br />population from the old city and the township is very close to even, <br />whichever way the vote goes half of the people will be upset. <br />ROLL CALL VOTE: AKERSON — VOTING AYE; GARDNER — VOTING <br />NAY; PEDERSON — VOTING AYE; SJOBLAD — VOTING NAY; ADAMS <br />— VOTING NAY. MOTION FAILED 2-3. <br />COUNCIL MEMBER SJOBLAD MOVED TO ADOPT ORDINANCE 13-05 <br />� AMENDING THE AMENDED JOINT RESOLUTION FOR ORDERLY <br />
