February 26, 2014
Honorable Mayor and Council Members
City of Pequot Lakes
4638 County Road 11
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472-0361
RE: Amendment to Engineering Agreement
North Washington Avenue
Pequot Lakes, MN
Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
WIDSETH
,SMITH
NOLTING
Brainerd/Ilaxter
7804 Industrial Park Road
PO Box 2720
Baxter, MN 56425-2720
21s.azs.51 0
218.H29.2517
Brainerd@wsn.us.com 0
W idsethSmith Nolting.com
Mike Loven asked that we submit this request for an Amendment to our current Engineering
Agreement on the above referenced project.
Our original agreement ($30,150) was set up — as past agreements have been — with the
intention that City staff would take care of most of the construction phase administration and
observation.
Mike noted several factors in asking us to submit this amendment.
First, construction is anticipated to begin in August a couple of weeks before Labor Day. While
any day or month can be busy, this is an especially busy time for Mike and his staff. He does
not believe he can spend the needed time on-site during construction.
Second, this project includes underground sanitary sewer constructian. There really needs to be
an experienced person consistently on-site to answer questions and observe these
improvements — assets that get covered up.
Third, there are a lot of grades and slopes that will probably elicit questions and should have an
experienced person present to obtain answers.
Mike does not see being able to provide a person on a consistent basis for the amount of time
that will be needed to administer and observe this construction.
In addition to the above, we have also been working on the retaining wall, some aesthetic
accents, and easements that were not in our original scope. These items will also need to be
followed up during construction (shop drawings, staking, observation, and administration).
With this amendment, we will provide the following services:
• Include retaining walls and accents in the construction drawings, specifications, and
estimated quantities.
Gngineering I Architectuxe I Surveying
Environmental
