Facility Plan to the City (and to the MPCA and other agencies). I am
hoping to finish this up within a couple of months.
Nelson Road
We are on hold.
CIP Council Workshop / Road Criteria follow-u
At the CIP Council Workshop, Dawn rightly pointed out that Nisswa
recently passed `road standards'. I understand Nisswa's Committee's
vote was split down the middle, their P&Z's vote was split down the
middle, and the City Council passed it only on a 3-2 vote. Not a
mandate, but they do have `newer' road standards.
Besides being involved in their road standards discussion, we also
worked with Nisswa in the past (2009) on a ranking system. In practice,
a list of possible roadway improvements is generated yearly, or about
yearly — with, I believe, this ranking as background. Priorities are then
adjusted by the staff, committees, and the City Council before any
project is moved forward to design and eventually construction. This
ranking system was only part of the 2009 study we did. I understood
they were more so wanting to get their arms around all the potential
roadway needs for the next 20 or so years and how that might impact
yearly City budgeting and the portion of the tax levy going to roads.
I know we have also helped other cities come up with similar ranking
and weighting methods. While we can definitely help in any future
committee attempt at coming up with a system for Pequot Lakes, every
city is different. It takes time (some would say a lot) to come up with
and agree upon the criteria, how each individual criterion will be
scored, and how each criterion will be weighted. If you want us
involved at `every' step along the way, we can do so. Or, if you want to
get to certain points, and then seek our periodic input, that is okay too.
Or, if you do not want us involved, that is fine as well.
Council Action Requested: No action requested.
