Economic Development Committee <br /> September 23, 2008 <br /> Page 2 of 3 <br /> ----------------------------------------------- <br /> Nancy Adams indicated that there are things that we can do to improve the <br /> economy. <br /> Mark Jurchen stated that the biggest concern is to get municipal consent and try to <br /> get the money to do the project. He stated that if it can be done within a couple of <br /> years we should continue on with the plan. <br /> Patrick Smith suggested that the city develop options for both a through town and <br /> alternate around town route and let MnDOT choose the route it wants. <br /> Ed Larsen suggested keeping this issue on the agenda. Justin Bolz-Andolshek <br /> stated he supports a resolution to shelve the project. <br /> Mark Jurchen stated he would like to wait on a decision until he has the results of <br /> the joint meeting with surrounding communities and to see if there is a chance to <br /> receive funding from federal transportation funds. He stated that if there is no <br /> funding then, maybe we should shelf it. He noted that the uncertainty is <br /> detrimental to the City and that at the present time the real issue is funding. <br /> 6. Business Retention and Marketina <br /> The Clerk handed out a workshop invitation for business retention and expansion <br /> techniques. <br /> 7. BLADC Power Point Presentation <br /> BLADC gave a presentation to the EDC explaining the mission of BLADC and <br /> reviewing projects that have been completed. <br /> NANCY ADAMS MOVED TO URGE THE CITY COUNCIL TO <br /> CONTINUE ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH BLADC. MARK JURCHEN <br /> SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> 8. Next Meeting Date <br /> The next meeting is scheduled for October 21St, at 8:00 a.m. and will focus on the <br /> downtown plan. <br /> 5. Other Business <br /> Nancy Adams suggested having a marketing person to coordinate all City events. <br /> Ruth Ann Hanson stated that this is the role of the Chamber of Commerce. <br />
