Economic Development Committee September 23, 2008 Page 2 of 3 ----------------------------------------------- Nancy Adams indicated that there are things that we can do to improve the economy. Mark Jurchen stated that the biggest concern is to get municipal consent and try to get the money to do the project. He stated that if it can be done within a couple of years we should continue on with the plan. Patrick Smith suggested that the city develop options for both a through town and alternate around town route and let MnDOT choose the route it wants. Ed Larsen suggested keeping this issue on the agenda. Justin Bolz-Andolshek stated he supports a resolution to shelve the project. Mark Jurchen stated he would like to wait on a decision until he has the results of the joint meeting with surrounding communities and to see if there is a chance to receive funding from federal transportation funds. He stated that if there is no funding then, maybe we should shelf it. He noted that the uncertainty is detrimental to the City and that at the present time the real issue is funding. 6. Business Retention and Marketina The Clerk handed out a workshop invitation for business retention and expansion techniques. 7. BLADC Power Point Presentation BLADC gave a presentation to the EDC explaining the mission of BLADC and reviewing projects that have been completed. NANCY ADAMS MOVED TO URGE THE CITY COUNCIL TO CONTINUE ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH BLADC. MARK JURCHEN SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. 8. Next Meeting Date The next meeting is scheduled for October 21St, at 8:00 a.m. and will focus on the downtown plan. 5. Other Business Nancy Adams suggested having a marketing person to coordinate all City events. Ruth Ann Hanson stated that this is the role of the Chamber of Commerce.
