AGENDA ITEM # 9.1 . <br /> REPORT TO <br /> CITY COUNCIL <br /> Date: August 3, 2004 <br /> Subject: Number of Council Members from 7 to 5 <br /> Report: We have had a request from a citizen of <br /> Pequot Lakes to ask the Council if they are interested in <br /> reducing the number of Council members from 7 to 5. <br /> State law allows the voters to decide if there should be a <br /> reduction in the number of Council members. But before <br /> the voters can vote on the issue, the Council must pass an <br /> ordinance that submits the question to the voters. The <br /> ordinance has to be adopted 60 days before the election <br /> (September 3). <br /> A schedule to accomplish the statutory requirement of two <br /> Council Members being elected each election year is <br /> attached.
