PEQUOT LAKES
PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
MEETING MINUTES
May 15, 2008, at 6:30 PM
1. Call to Order- 6:30 PM
2. ABSENT: John Derksen.
City Council Liaison: Craig Nagel.
City Planner: Charles Marohn, PE.
3. Public Hearings—None.
4. Additions or Deletions to Agenda-None
5. Open Forum-None
6. New Business:
a. Wilderness Point Resort Submittal Items
Mr. Marohn reviewed the process and the final plat, which is tentatively scheduled for June.
Dave Reese, WSN, presents grading plan discussion. He indicated that the number of storage
units is decreasing, but the size is expanding from 1Ox20 to 12x26. It falls into the same area
and meets the buffer, but the number of units went down accordingly. This was desired by the
owner to provide for better use of the units.
Mr.Adams asked how many total ultimately. Mr. Reese indicates that there will be 68. The end
units will be divided in two to be smaller units. Originally there were 8o proposed.
Mr. Reese discussed drainage. He stated that flow is generally from the southwest to the
north/northeast. There will be some clearing for the access road, some of which does go into the
buffer area. The vegetation plan shows the replanting of trees there to reforest the area. There
will be a culvert through there to maintain the drainage way. The runoff from the storage area
will be contained within the storage area, which is large and exceeds the requirements for the
storage area. The actual grading will remove material and the units will be set down, partially
obscured by the earth. The applicant is not opposed to planting additional vegetation, but the
units will be lower than the surrounding ground.
Mr. Habein asked about stabilization on the back side of the units. Mr. Reese indicated that
they are going to use a retaining wall.
Discussion followed on drainage off of the building. Mr. Reese indicated that there will be a
gravel liner on the edge of the building that will daylight at the north.
Minutes 1
Pequot Lakes Planning Commission
May 15,2oo8
