AGENDA ITEM #9.4
cy of
Pequot
Lakes— -
REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
Report Prepared by: Nancy Malecha
Date: February 5, 2018
Subiect: Request for Temporary Hire
Report: A public works employee will be out on personal leave for several
weeks beginning in late February. Because of this, the Public Works Department
will be short staffed during the remaining 2017-2018 snowplowing season. To
alleviate this, we are requesting the temporary hiring of Bill Rickard to assist with
snowplowing duties on an as needed basis. As you may know, Mr. Rickard is the
First Assistant Chief in the Fire Department and he has assisted the City in the past
with our snowplowing needs. He is familiar with the City's streets, snowplowing
routes, will require no additional training, and his licensing and employment
screenings have already been met.
The pay structure range for the City's Maintenance Worker position is from $15.90
per hour to $20.87 per hour. I am requesting that the City pay Mr. Rickard an
hourly wage of$19.14 per hour which is 1/2 step below current staff. The Public
Works Department is not seeking to amend their budget for this unforeseen event
as they will work this into their existing 2018 budget.
We appreciate Mr. Rickard's willingness to assist the City on an as needed basis
during this temporary staffing shortage.
Council Action Requested: Council motion to hire Bill Rickard as a temporary
Maintenance Worker to assist the Public Works Department as needed during the
2017-2018 snowplowing season at an hourly rate of$19.14 per hour with no
benefit package.
