PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING &ZONING COMMISSION MEETING, TUESDAY,
DECEMBER 18, 2001
The Pequot Lakes Planning&Zoning Commission meeting was called to order by Chairman T.Woog at 6:40
p.m. on Tuesday, December 18,2001 at Pequot Lakes City Hall.
Roll Call: T. Woog, D.Trenkenschuh,J. Dotty. Late: J. Derksen.
MINUTES
MOTION BY J. DOTTY AND SECONDED BY D. TRENKENSCHUH THAT THE MINUTES
OF THE NOVEMBER 20, 2001 MEETING BE APPROVED AS PRESENTED. MOTION
CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
GIBSON STORAGE FACILITY
A letter was received from Dick Gibson in answer to one sent to him by Chairman Woog. He attempted to
answer some of the concerns the Commission had about his storage facility.
The owners of the individual lots are supposed to form an Association which would be responsible for
enforcement of the Covenants,Conditions and Restrictions, as well as the maintenance of the road. Gibson
states that the road through the storage lots, Storage Circle Road, is the same width as road coming off#11
between Landecker and old Kinzie Candle building,so this is o.k.with the city'. The City Clerk reported that the
city does not recognize or maintain such a road.
Gibson's Stormwater plan is as follows: `There are two runoff lots to southwest lot, shared with Landecker and
Kinzie buildings. Lot on northeast corner marked with dotted lines."
Having inspected the property Gibson intends to develop,J. Dotty reported that there are very few existing trees
that could provide screening, and most of the trees on the west end of the property would have to be removed
based on the drawings of the development.
r Following a lengthy discussion, the Commission members concurred that a storage facility such as the one
proposed by Gibson is not consistent with the desired pattern of development for that particular area(Article X,
Section 10.30, "d"of the City Zoning Ordinance). Mr. Gibson will be so advised.
UPDATE ON RUSH BAY PROPERTIES
LOT#1
Greden's fence continues to be in violation due to its height, although the owner has promised to comply. It is
possible that Greden will not be able to make the necessary alterations until spring since he resides outside of
the area.
LOT#2
Kellogg and Plourde have been in touch with Crow Wing County Soil &Water Resources and are working on a
revised plan.
LOT#3
The representatives from the Soil&Water Resources are ordering restoration of all but 400 sq.ft. of the
alteration done near the lake. They will advise when this is complete.
JOINT PLANNING &ZONING COMMISSION
T.Woog suggested that C. Nagle of Sibley Township be the Chair, and he could hold the position of Vice Chair.
This would result in four voting members from the City and six voting members from the Township, with the
Chair voting only in the case of a tie. The commission members agreed that the Sibley Township Hall is better
equipped for meetings, and that the joint meetings should be held there.
A question came up regarding the Township's Zoning Administrator and the duties he performs and why he
cannot do some work for the City. This will be discussed with him later.
1
