EXCERPT FROM MINUTES - MARCH 18, 2008 EDC MEETING 7. Downtown Plan Update Chuck Marohn presented the downtown plan to the EDC for comments. Mr. Marohn indicated that the Planning Commission has reviewed the plan and feels it is an economically viable project. He further noted that the Council has requested the EDC to consider the plan prior to the Council making a decision on the plan. Discussion was held regarding the funding of the plan. The Committee felt that although funding could be an obstacle,the plan is very important for future growth of the City. The EDC felt that further study by a committee may be necessary regarding the implementation of the plan. NANCY ADAMS MOVED TO SUPPORT THE DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN AND TO ENCOURAGE THE COUNCIL TO SUPPORT THE PLAN WITH FURTHER STUDY BY A COMMITTEE FOR A PLAN OF ACTION TO IMPLEMENT THE DOWNTOWN PLAN. MARK JURCHEN SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION CARRIED 3-0. \., EXCERPT FROM MINUTES -APRIL 10, 2008 COUNCIL MEETING 5.3. Economic Development Committee Mark Jurchen updated the Council on the March 18, 2008, Economic Development Committee meeting. He discussed the issues of health care, the business inventory, business brochures, the small cities development grant, the downtown plan and the industrial park expansion. Mr. Jurchen noted that the EDC made the following recommendations: • Hold off for one year to proceed with the grant Small Cities Development Grant • Secure a grant to design a business brochure • Support of the Downtown plan and form a committee for further study Mark Jurchen asked the Council what direction the Council would like to see the EDC follow. Council Member Nagel suggested that the EDC continue to work with the existing businesses. COUNCIL MEMBER NAGEL MOVED TO AUTHORIZE THE EDC TO LOOK FOR A GRANT FOR A MARKETING BROCHURE. COUNCIL
