SPECIAL MEETING OF THE
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
MINUTES
FEBRUARY 26, 2008
MEMBERS PRESENT: Mark Jurchen, Justin Bolz-Andolshek, Patrick Smith, Ed
Larsen, and Nancy Adams
ALSO PRESENT: Mayor Cathy Malecha, City Clerk Sandy Peine, Zoning
Administrator Dawn Bittner; Elissa Rogers, BLADC
1. Call Meeting to Order
The special meeting of the Economic Development Committee was called to
order by Chair Larsen at 8:00 a.m.
2. TruGreen Company
Elissa Rogers of BLADC made a presentation to the Economic Development
Committee on behalf of the TruGreen Company, a lawn care and tree and shrub
care company. This company is proposing to purchase Lot 3, Block 4 in the
Pequot Lakes Business Park for $43,900. This is a $5,000 reduction in the City's
asking price of$48,900. The business owners feel the reduction is reasonable
considering the pricing research they have done on the business park lots in Pine
River, Jenkins, and Pequot Lakes. The company plans to create 2-7 jobs within
the next two years. The current hourly wage is at $12.00 to $15.00 per hour.
The Economic Development Committee discussed the proposal. Questions were
raised regarding the request to reduce the lot cost. Elissa noted that the owners
were aware of the lot reduction prices offered to Lonesome Cottage. The EDC
noted that precedence may have been set for the existing business park in lot price
reductions but felt that if a new park is established the EDC should set some
guidelines for lot purchases that will be consistent and fair for everyone.
The EDC was pleased to see an existing company in the City wanting to expand
into the business park.
MARK JURCHEN MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO THE CITY COUNCIL
THE APPROVAL OF THE OFFER BY TRUGREEN COMPANY TO
PURCHASE LOT 3, BLOCK 4 IN THE CITY'S BUSINESS PARK FOR
$43,900. NANCY ADAMS SECONDED THE MOTION. MOTION
CARRIED 5-0.
