Economic Development Committee
February 19, 2008
-----------------------------------------------
concerned about being able to advertise their existing businesses along the
alternate route.
• Industrial/Business Park—There is a need to expand the Industrial Park.
The EDC noted that this is a high priority and they will be looking at
options.
• Vacant Buildings in Town —There is a concern with the number of
vacant businesses in town.
• Downtown Plan —There is a concern with the time line and funding
options of the downtown plan. Dawn Bittner explained that the Planning
Commission has been reviewing the plan and will be making a
recommendation to the Council in the near future. The Chamber
questioned whether there would be public input in the plan since it has
been a long time since the original plan was developed. Dawn noted that
she would inform the Planning Commission of this request.
5. Inventory Update
Chair Larsen and Mark Jurchen updated the Chamber on the process used for the
business inventory that was done by the Economic Development Committee and
volunteers. Chair Larsen noted that the results of the survey have not been
compiled at this time.
6. Future Project Considerations
• Business Incubator—Nothing to report at this time.
• Small Cities Development Program—The Clerk noted that the BLADC
made a presentation to the Council at its February 4`h meeting.
• Industrial Park Expansion —The EDC felt that this topic was very
important and should be the focus of a special meeting. The EDC decided
to dedicate the April 15`h meeting to the topic of the Business/Industrial
Park expansion. The Committee felt it was important to invite a couple of
Council Members, Planning Commission Members, the City Engineer and
BLADC. The Committee noted that it would be best if BLADC had some
information on Industrial Parks that could be provided to the EDC
members prior to the meeting.
7. Business Retention
The Clerk noted that this topic was mentioned by Council Member Ryan as being
an important topic that the EDC should be considering. The Committee
acknowledged that business retention was important and that the committee
would continue to address this issue.
8. Next Meeting Date
