Economic Development Committee
January 15, 2008
-----------------------------------------------
Business Park
The Committee discussed the need to expand the existing Business Park.
BLADC noted that if this were a priority, there are funding programs that
could be available to the City. The Committee noted that there are still a
few lots available in the existing Business Park. The Committee also noted
that timing of the Highway 371 issue could have an impact on the timing
of a Business Park Expansion. It was also noted that an expansion of the
Park would involve the existing spray irrigation fields.
Health Care Focus
The Committee felt this was a high priority as the senior population is
continuing to grow. The Committee discussed the possibility of having an
urgent care facility in the community. The Committee had questions as to
how to pursue this type of need. It was suggested that the Committee
begin conversations with local regional health care facilities personnel.
The Committee discussed the level of importance of each future project.
The Committee concluded the following:
1. The Business Incubator concept is very important but that it would
not require EDC involvement other than being updated on the project at
this time.
2. The Small Cities Development Program is of high importance and
the Committee would like to begin the process in 2008. They requested
BLADC to make a presentation to the Council to see if the Council was
interested in pursuing the program.
3. Health Care Focus is of high importance and the Committee would
like to begin research as to whether it would be viable to develop some
type of health care center that would entail all areas of health care in the
City of Pequot Lakes
4. The Business Park Expansion is important, however, the
Committee felt that there are still a few lots available and that it may be
best to wait for municipal consent on the Highway 371 project before the
City moves forward on a possible expansion.
6. Chamber Survey
