Dog Park:
At the request of the Council, the Park Board again reviewed possible locations of
a Dog Park in Pequot Lakes. Locations considered were: behind the Water Plant,
under the new water tower, Mayo Lake Park, North Trailside Park, Sibley Lake
Pa rk.
After further discussion, it was the unanimous conclusion that Sibley Lake Park
continues to be the best location for this amenity as it would increase appropriate
usage of this park, the major goal of the Park Board.
The Board recommends switching the location of the Dog Park within Sibley Lake
Park. By flipping the designated area from the south portion of the park to the
north portion, freer access to the fishing pier steps, a concern of some, would be
provided. This also provides a slightly larger area for the Dog Park. The Board
strongly feels that, should this park gain maximum use, another pog Park could be
established in the future. In the meantime, it is felt that this space is more than
sufficient.
There are two pieces of playground equipment that will need to be relocated.
The Board's suggestion is that the wooden piece of equipment be relocated to
Gildner Park (Pillsbury and Oak) as it fits with the look and, further, neighborhood
residents have been requesting additional equipment. The large metal swings
would be relocated to the south area of Sibley Lake Park, painted a bright color,
and gain new seats. The proposed new playground equipment would also be
located in this area.
The current outhouse in the area could either remain or could be removed. If it is
removed, the Board feels that, when the park is fully utilized, the City could
consider building a"real" bathroom on the site.
Finally, the Board feels that it is extremely important for the electrical posts to be
removed as soon as possible, with wires buried in the park. Rather than
decorative lamp posts, it is the recommendation that the light posts be reused.
