firefighters atended an arson class in Grand Rapids. Department members did a safety
walk thru inspection of the new constructan area of the high school and also helped with
the first fire drill held this school year. Chief Nelson has been working on a project to
replace old and outdated rescue equipment that will cost about $11,000.00. The
Department may seek donations to help fund the project. We have applied for this year's
FEMA grant to help fund new air paeks. Several of our air bottles life span will expire in
2014 so this grant funding is needed. The Department sponsored a fire prevention
program at Eagle View Elementary School for kindergarten thru second grade. Our
annual open house was held during fire prevention week and featured food, fire truck
rides, bouncey house, equipment displays, kitchen fire demonstration, and the safety
house. About 500 peole attended.
The 2014 fire budget yvas reviewed. Debt retirement increased $6090.00 but the overall
budget increase was only 2.24 %, or about $3840.00. If we are not awarded an air pack
grant, we could use the $20,000 from caital outlay cariyover. Insurance for 2014 has
dropped 22% due to the League of Municipalities changing billing rates. Donovan
motioned to aprove the new budget, second by Sodd, motion assed.
Our next meeting is January 29, 2014 at the fire station.
Benson motioraed to adjourn, second by Rudberg, meeting adjourned.
