Merrbers in attendance Members
in attendance were Hart, Benson, Mayor Adams, Dubay, Sodd, Mayor Weaver, Rudber,
Nelson, Peterson, Donovan, and Bartels.
The miutes of the last meeting were not read due to a motion by 1Veaver, second by
Bensor, motion passed.
The third quarter fire calls totaled 14. B types, there were 8 good intent, 3 mutual aid
structure, 1 grass fire, 1 gas line cui, and 1 hay baler and grass fire. By location, there
were 8 to Pequot Lakes, 2 to reezy Point, 1 to Loon Lake Township, 1 to 1lIission
Township, 1 to Pine River, and 1 to Nisswa. There were 3 bills sent that totaled
$1070.00. Grass fires are generally caused when people burn and do not extinguish their
fire completely and the next day wind picks up and the fire re-ignites. Kids playing with
lighters ca.n also be a eause for these fires.
Training for the third quarter includes 3 hours of air care landing zone establishing, 3
hours hose testing, hose rolling, hose nozzle operation, and high volume hose oeration,
and 4 hours physical fitness and agiliy testing.
The third quarter financial report was discussed. Sunkers were over budget due to some
turnout gear for 2012 actually billed in 2013 and having to replace all our outdated fire
helmets. Qur department is on a three per year gear replacemeni which takes 10 gears.
We have approximately $110,000 available to use for our new enine if we use $86,000
from our cash balance, $12,000 from debt service principal, and $12,000 from debt
service interest. Our Peterbuilt engine was paid oif early so these debt service funds are
available. Sodd motioned to approve the financial report second by Donovan, motion
assed.
Chief Nelson informed the Board that the truck committee selected Custom Fire from
Osceola, Wisconsin, ta manufacture our new engine. It will be very similar to our
Peterbuilt engine we currently have. The truek will cost about $415,000 and our loan is
for $350,000. The chassis is a Freightliner. tiVe are paying an extra $2000.00 for fees to
use a U. S. consortiurn to bid for lower costs for our engine. However, we should save at
least $10,000 from lower costs. Once the truck is ordered, the time to manufacture it
should be about 300 days. It may be possible to have it by the 4' of July. The truck
committee has over a yeax of research during this process. Custom Fire's trucks are a1I
bolted together so they are easier to repair.
The department received a$300.00 donation from the Breezy Point Women"s Club to
purchase step chocks that are used for rescue. Tom Nelson, Daren Nordby, and Trevor
Lang were winners in the Department's weight loss contest that ended July 4th. Two
