CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES <br /> `' ORDINANCE # 04-03 <br /> AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A QUESTION TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE <br /> VOTERS OF THE CITY OF PEQUOT LAKES WHETHER OR NOT THE CITY <br /> COUNCIL SHOULD BE INCREASED FROM FIVE MEMBERS TO SEVEN <br /> MEMBERS <br /> WHEREAS, A question will appear on the ballot of the General Election to be held <br /> November 2, 2004,asking the voters of the City of Pequot Lakes the <br /> question of whether the City Council should be decreased from seven <br /> members to five members; and <br /> WHEREAS, if the question is approved in favor of reducing the size of the Pequot <br /> Lakes City Council,the schedule of election for the five council members <br /> will be as follows: <br /> 1. During the November 2006 General Election <br /> • One four-year council office will be open with the term <br /> running from January 1, 2007 to January 1, 2011 <br /> • Two Council terms will be eliminated <br /> 2. During the November 2008 General Election <br /> • One two-year Council term will be open with the term running <br /> from January 1, 2009 to January 1, 2011 <br /> • Two four-year terms will be open running from January 1, <br /> 2009 to January 1, 2013 <br /> WHEREAS, when filing for election in 2008,the candidates for City Council will <br /> specify which term of office they are seeking. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that the City Council members for Pequot <br /> Lakes will go from a 7 member council to a five member Council <br /> beginning in 2006 and a schedule of election that results in two four-year <br /> terms shall be implemented by January 1, 2008. <br /> Passed and adopted by the Pequot Lakes City Council this 3rd day of August, 2004. <br /> This ordinance becomes effective upon its adoption and publication. <br /> Cathy Malecha, Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Sandra A.
