Malecha, Council Members Johnson, , Akerson, <br /> Pfeiffer, Sjoblad, And Ryan <br /> Members Absent: Council Member Bolz-Andolshek <br /> Also Present: Planning Commission Members, PLADO Members, Long <br /> Range Planning Committee <br /> Speaker: Don Hickman — Initiative Foundation <br /> Meeting Notes: The purpose of the meeting is to discuss how the proposal of <br /> Highway 371 going through Pequot Lakes will affect the City; identify the issues <br /> and how to deal with some of the issues. <br /> Park in Center of Town <br /> • 2 square blocks <br /> • city/DNR owned <br /> • Social events <br /> • Open space <br /> • Trail <br /> • Gazebo <br /> • Parking at trailside <br /> • Trailside Center—WWT Services <br /> • Formed in 1990's <br /> • Old Comp Plan identified as green space <br /> • 30-40% of land—west side of highway will be paved as part of Right-of-way <br /> • Reduced safety buffer from highway <br /> Responses <br /> • Identification of additional public space for civic gatherings <br /> • Develop northern end of park for parking <br /> • Sound/Speed mitigations <br /> • City permit needed for speed change? <br /> • Acquire more land south to expand park <br /> • Aesthetic concerns associated with mitigations <br /> • Pedestrian crossing? <br /> • Enhance and retain north woods feeling <br /> Minutes/2004/CC051004 .doc <br />
