PEQUOT LAKES AREA FIRE BOARD
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 28,2004 MEETING
The quarterly meeting of the PLAFB was called to order by Chairman Peterson.
Members in attendance were Hoefs, Benson, Pfeiffer, Thurlow, Malecha,Nelson, and
Peterson.
We are missing a representative from Maple Township, and understand Herb Winch is no
longer on their board.
The minutes of last meeting were approved by a motion by Thurlow, second by Malecha,
motion passed.
The first quarter fire call report totaled 10 calls. By types, there were 4 motor vehicle
accident/rescue, 3 good intent fire alarms that were cancelled, 1 structure, 1 assist Breezy
Point police, and 1 grass. By location, 5 were to Pequot lakes, 4 to Breezy Point, and 1 to
the City of Jenkins. Last year there were 14 calls during the first quarter.
The training report was for 18 hours. Training accomplished included 8 hours of live
house burn, 3 hours of hazardous materials, 3 hours ice rescue, 2 hours pump truck
operation, and 2 hours SCBA search and rescue.
The quarterly financial report was discussed. Capital outlay included $21,467.12 to help
equip the new pumper, of which$10,000 was donated. The report was favorable and
approved by a motion by Thurlow, second by Pfeiffer, motion passed.
The new Peterbuilt pumper truck is in service. The department has been trained on
operation and driving. The truck has a new radio, has been lettered and decaled, and is
fully equipped.
Bruce Stagner resigned from the department and has moved from the area.
The FEMA grant application was completed and requests were for about$46,000 in
equipment. A complete new Hurst tool package totaled about$33,000 of that amount.
The decision to locate highway 371 through town could affect response time to the west
side of 371.
Overdue fire bills are probably not collectible due to property owners not having
insurance. We will try to collect all contracted area fire calls by billing the city, or
township.
The new city building is being renovated. New doors, electrical revisions, and new floor
drains will be installed. These costs should not affect fire contracts. The City clerk plans
