MINUTES <br /> SPECIAL JOINT MEETING <br /> PEQUOT LAKES PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> AND <br /> PEQUOT LAKES CITY COUNCIL <br /> MARCH 11,2004 <br /> PRESENT: <br /> PLANNING COMMISSION: Tom Adams, John Derksen,Marty Nelson,Bill Habein, <br /> Karl Moon and Mark Hallan. <br /> CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Cathy Malecha, Councilpersons Tom Ryan, Mary Pfeiffer, <br /> Joanne Johnson, Dave Sjoblad,Justin Bolz-Andolshek, and Jerry Akerson. <br /> STAFF: Sandy Peine, City Clerk, Charles Marohn, City Planner and Dawn Bittner, <br /> Zoning Administrator. <br /> The meeting was called to order by Karl Moon,Commission Vice-chair at the Gathering <br /> Room at Pequot Lakes School. The Planning Commission had requested a joint meeting <br /> with the City Council to discuss specific portions of the DRAFT Comprehensive Plan <br /> that conflicted with the through-town expansion of Highway 371. A copy of their list is <br /> attached. The following are points that were discussed: <br /> Community Character: <br /> ♦ Cole Memorial Building now on Historical Register. <br /> ♦ Trailside Park will disappear—new site needs to be found for gathering space and <br /> parking.. <br /> ♦ Starting new traditions is difficult. <br /> ♦ Fire Tower property—not flat enough <br /> ♦ West Twin Lake DNR property—not accessible. <br /> ♦ Sewer fields—sell or use for public. <br /> ♦ Moving social events—will it affect downtown character? <br /> ♦ Community character will change either way the highway goes-how do we keep <br /> community character regardless where the highway goes. <br /> ♦ Establish certain types of business zones for each side of highway. <br /> Integrated Growth Map: <br /> ♦ Not reviewed by enough people. <br /> ♦ A number of ideas were not incorporated into the map. <br /> ♦ The opportunity to work and live in close proximity drive the small town feeling. <br /> Housing: <br /> ♦ Redevelopment creates a loss of housing. <br /> `.. ♦ Parking on-street a problem. <br />
