C I T Y O F
August 6, 2001
Human Resources
University of MN Extension Service
260 Coffey Hall
225 East First Street North 1420 Eckles Avenue
PO Box 216 St Paul MN 55108
Melrose Minnesota 56352-0216
Re: Richard Mark Reference -
320.256.4278
Fax 320'256'7766 Dear Sir/Madam:
e-mail: melcity @meltel.com
Mr. Mark has been a member of the City of Melrose Planning and
Zoning Commission since January 1998. The Planning
Commission plays a vital role in the current and future development
of the City. Duties of the Commission include holding public
hearings for amendments, conditional use permits, plats, etc. The
Commission must also review the adequacy and scope of the
Zoning Ordinance and Comprehensive Plan.
The Commission also acts as the Board of Adjustment and
Appeals. The powers of this Board are to hear and decide appeals
if it is felt there was an error in an order, requirement, decision or
determination, to hear requests for variances and to interpret the
meaning of the Zoning Ordinance.
During his tenure, Mr. Mark participated in a review of the
Comprehensive Plan and several amendments made to it, attended
public hearings on plats, conditional use permits, variances and a
Planned Unit Development. The sign section of the Zoning
Ordinance also sustained a thorough review, as well as the
implementation of a Housing Code. The Land Subdivision
Ordinance was rewritten during this time.
Mr. Mark brought an interesting perspective to the meetings and
was not afraid to share his thoughts and experiences as they dealt
with the subject at hand. I feel he would be an asset to the
university system.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please
MAYOR feel free to contact me at 320-256-4278.
George O'Brien
Sinc rely,
COUNCIL MEMBERS
Ernest Hedglin vv C
Jone Meyer
George Jensen
Nancy Roaring ose Ann Inderrieden
City Administrator
CITY ADMINISTRATOR
Rose Ann Inderrieden E:\Wordfiles\Planning&Zoning Commission\Correspondence\D Mark.doc
