NEEDED TWO VOLUNTEERS FROM COUNCIL.......
Earl Hemmerich-963-4495 (Owner of Pequot Trailer Court)
Approached the city on March 31 to build a storm shelter.
There is a grant available which would pay for 75% of the shelter and he is willing
to pay for 25%, however, the grant stipulates it must be on city property.
He was wondering if the city would put it on their property, I spoke with Brett and
there is enough room by the water plant. (Also Mr. Hemmerich could donate one
of his lots to the city to make this work-our suggestion) The land by the water
plant could make a beautiful park someday.
The requirements for a storm shelter is 4 to 5 sq. ft per person. He is thinking
100-120 people. The structure would be 20 x 25 or pre-fab 12 x 45 or 50 (this
only comes in 12 ft sections.
By being on city property this would be a city-wide storm shelter.
Warroad just put up a pre-fab shelter at the cost of$28,000.
We need two council members to work with Mr. Hemmerich to see if this is
feasible.
`-- They would like to apply for the grant as soon as possible.
(FYI- By-law he has to provide a storm shelter for a mfg. Home park. Park Vie`v,
Sibley Terrace, Janice Pines do not have a storm shelter, so if the city were to
put on City property would they come to the city to do the same? This scenario
could open up new problems. Also liability and insurance issues if on city
property)
