February 26, 2004
Mayor and City Council
City of Pequot Lakes
P.O. Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472
Re: Planning and Zoning Administrator's Report
Dear Mayor and City Council,
The Planning and Zoning Commission held their regular monthly meeting in
February. There were three public hearings, two of which dealt with the zoning status of
the Sibley Center property and one to review the Comprehensive Plan. A
recommendation on the Sibley Center property was made and acted on by you at the
meeting. The Comprehensive Plan is still being reviewed, with a recommendation to
follow shortly.
Crow Wing County Land Commissioner had requested a recommendation from the City
to classify two tax forfeited lots as "Conservation" (no sale) or"Non-conservation" (offer
for sale). The two lots are described as Lots 15 & 16, Block 10, Pequot Shady Shores.
The two lots are pre-existing, non-conforming lots as they do not meet the minimum lot
size requirement. A pre-existing, non-conforming lot would not require a variance,
provided it met at least 80% of the required lot area. They are in a non-sewered area and
would require 16,000 sq. ft. Their total lot area is 13,200 sq. ft. The Planning
Commission is unanimously recommending to you that you allow the county to reclassify
to "Non-Conservation".
If you have questions or concerns on the items in this report or any other issues, please do
not hesitate to contact me. You can reach me at 218-828-6820 or by email at
marohngcommunitygrowth.com.
Sincerely,
COMMUNITY GROWTH INSTITUTE
Charles Marohn, PE
City Planner
Cc: Planning Commission
Dawn Bittner, Zoning Administrator
