ct=ry
WIDSETH
S MITH
-- February 11, 2004 MOLTING
ENGINEERS ARCHITECTS LAND SURVEYORS ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES
Honorable Mayor and Council Members
City of Pequot Lakes
31108 Government Drive
P.O. Box 361
Pequot Lakes, MN 56472-0361
RE: Proposal for Architectural and Engineering Services
City-Fire Hall Building Remodeling
Pequot Lakes, MN
Honorable Mayor and Council Members:
This is a follow-up to our agreement with the City on the programming/study phase of
remodeling the Kinzie Kandle/Liberty Tool building for use as a City-Fire Hall (City Clerk's office;
Police office and garage; City street, maintenance, water, and wastewater offices and garage,
library, and Fire Hall). The results of our programming/study were summarized in an October
30, 2003 packet from one of our architects, Rick zumBrunnen.
After the programming/study phase, we prefer to work with our clients by putting together an
overall coordinated design and construction bidding package. However, we understand that the
City is proceeding into the construction phase with smaller projects as their resources permit.
We have been asked and have provided input to City staff on an "on call" basis.
As I have indicated to you in the past, when a specific project comes along, in lieu of providing
our service and billing intermittently, we prefer to enter into an agreement with the City that
defines the scope and estimates our effort. We do this so that both the City and WSN have an
understanding of what is anticipated. Unfortunately, due to the varied and "on call" character of
this work, we cannot give you a detailed scope of work (and corresponding estimate of our
effort)for this project. I can tell you that we have spent approximately $850 to date and, absent
an estimate of how much additional assistance will be needed, I would say that we might spend
another$850.
Our tasks have and will continue to include visiting the site as requested, responding to the
City's questions, researching the latest Building Codes for answers to your questions, and
providing that input to your staff. Please note that if we observe items that are not in compliance
with the Building Code, even if they do not relate to the question at hand, we are bound by
professional and ethical standards to point these out to the City.
We propose to perform our services in accordance with the attached General Conditions on an
2000 Industrial Park Rd. S.
P.O. Box 2720
Baxter, MN 56425-2720
(218)829-51 17
Fax: (2 1 8)829-2517
www.wsn—mn.com
Offices in: Alexandria Bemidji Brainerd/Baxter Crookston Grand Forks
AA/EEO
