Becker and Royalton have prospered greatly by avoiding or refusing to allow a bypass of
their communities. Each of these communities is flourishing as a result of having a major
highway running directly through their cities(just like Pequot Lakes today!).
I realize that the City Council's responsibilities are broader than simply insuring a strong
business community. I think all of us who have a vested interest in the future of Pequot
Lakes can agree there are important current and future safety issues that must be resolved
for the benefit of all who live, work or travel through Pequot Lakes. However I firmly
believe that a through-town route can be constructed in a comparable safe manner.
Imagine the interesting and synergistic solutions we can develop if the City Council, local
residents, business owners/business people, and MNDOT all work together. It all starts
with first deciding, and then making it clear to MNDOT, that the through-town route is
the alternative the Pequot Lakes community supports.
Sinc
Patri J. Smith
President
