These hardships are not only felt in
the merchants bottom line but also in the diminished values of real-estate
in the community. Examples of Towns that have suffered are not that far from
home (New York Mills and Little Falls) and I am sure a quick call to a local
official in those communities would confirm that if they had a choice they
would rethink the impact it has had to the local community they serve. Both
communities are always working on revitalizing there down town areas in an
attempt to attract the local and out of town shoppers. after years of
attempts towns shift or gravitate to the traffic of the bypass and there
rural character and atmosphere are lost forever.
I believe the Comp plan of your community attempts to encourage the
maintenance of our rural character, that is the voice of the community
speaking. A bypass will insure that goal is not reached as urban sprawl and
commercial enterprise moves to the transportation corridors.
Again I would encourage you to consider the expansion of the road in its
current location. Thank you for your time. David Landecker
12/29/2003
