December 17, 2003 To: MNDOT-TH371 Project Mayor Malecha Pequot Lakes City Council Enclosed you will find the completed survey of membership of the Pequot Lakes-Breezy Point Area Chamber of Commerce in regard to the TH371 Project. Process:The survey was conducted as a directly mailed survey to our 2002/2003 members. 217 surveys were originally sent out and 126 were returned. A second request was sent to non-respondents and an additional 22 surveys were returned. The surveys were numbered using a numerical code by location and business type. Each business was also given a unique number which was used to provide position identification. Individuals were supplied with a return envelope with their identification number on it. The surveys were kept confidential by only having the location and business type numbers. These were separated upon receipt to keep them confidential. Those who did indicate identity are so labeled in the comment section. Results were compiled by the chamber staff with alpha results tabulated in spreadsheet for and supplemental comments typed into a word processor. Results: Because any statistical data may be manipulated to provide favorable bias, the results are reported in total, as well as by business type and location. The breakdown is enclosed in this report. It was the board of directors decision to report the empirical data solely so as not to be perceived as applying any bias or slant to the results. A total of 148 of a possible 217 surveys were returned, which is a 68% sampling.
