Pequot Lakes - Hwy 371 North
August 21, 2005
Page 5of14
pay for a standard 32-foot wide, ditch-lined roadway(this service road will help the safety
and capacity of TH 371 by providing alternate routes for local traffic).
As part of the multiple private driveway crossings in No. 20 above, the highway access at
Derksen Road will be closed, including the crossing of the Paul Bunyan Trail at this point.
22. For the service roads on the east and west sides, the City will not contribute to any more
roadway width/section than MnDOT will pay for as part of this project(MnDOT provides
for a 32-feet wide, ditch-lined, 10-ton roadway).
Derksen Road/Derksen Road Extended West - Morehouse Drive {0.4 miles}
23. The City has reviewed placing casing pipes under TH 371 around the intersection with
Derksen Road in the past.
Considering the present unknown nature and timing of development in this area, the City is
not yet sure whether to put in casing pipes as part of the highway project or wait to see
where development requires a crossing and jack casing pipes under the highway at some
future time.
24. On the west side of the highway, the City has never officially accepted the roadway
construction itself that was put in by the developer/property owner for the existing service
road south of Pillsbury Street.
MnDOT's proposed 32-foot wide service roads south and north of this existing section will
be wider than the existing 22 to 24 foot section. However, MnDOT said they would not
participate in upgrading an existing road(whether the City has or has not accepted it), even
if it is part of the proposed service road network (besides, no accesses on the highway are
being closed thru this stretch).
The City can upgrade this road—whether it be a wider pavement section, new sanitary
sewer, new watermain, assessed, etc. - as a part of the highway project (the City would get
more "bang for their buck" due to economy of scale in conjunction with this larger project).
25. On the west side, the City has in the past looked at extending City sanitary sewer south
from West Lake Street(see the WSN May 2000 Feasibility Report on Roadway and Utility
Improvements for the Brunes-Royce Addition for a proposed layout and estimated costs).
Considering the present unknown nature and timing of development in this area, the City is
not yet sure whether to initiate such a project as part of the highway project or wait to see if
development would drive such a project at some future time.
26. On the west side, the City has in the past looked at extending City watermain south from
CADocuments and Settings\Ad mini strator\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLKB\082105 Overall List of Issues-memo.doc
